The 2016 NFL Draft took place from April 28 to April 30, at the Auditorium Theater in Chicago, Illinois. By virtue of being the worst team in the 2015 season, the Tennessee Titans owned the rights to the first overall pick in the 2016 draft. Even though both the Titans and the Cleveland Browns finished the 2015 season with the same record (3-13), the Titans had a lower strength of schedule, and were thus granted the earlier pick. Due to their role in the Deflategate scandal, the New England Patriots forfeited their first round pick. The Denver Broncos picked last in the first round after winning the Super Bowl.
Prior to the draft, the Titans and Browns traded the first and second picks to the newly-relocated Los Angeles Rams and the Philadelphia Eagles, respectively. The Rams took quarterback Jared Goff from the University of California first overall and the Eagles selected quarterback Carson Wentz from North Dakota State University.
