With the Cavaliers Winning Again, a Melo Deal Is Unappealing

As the Cleveland Cavaliers have been cruising through February, we reevaluate if a trade involving superstar Carmelo Anthony is worth it.

The Cavs have been playing as a team lately. With the ball moving and with shooters like Korver and Love streaking the team has put themselves in a comfortable position at the top of the eastern conference.

With the team on a hot streak would it be a good idea to trade for Carmelo Anthony? And is the infamous “playmaker” still necessary?

Kevin Love has filled his role as the third option well. He has earned an All Star spot and he has seemed to gel with LeBron and Kyrie after three years.

If it took this long for all of the pieces to gel, how long will it take Melo to gel with the team that is built to win now.

The game the Wizards was a big win for the team. The Wizards were trying to dethrone the Cavs and make a move for the top spot but the Cavs fought for an overtime win.

After the win head coach Tyrone went on record saying that Love wasn’t going anywhere.

He said, “We’re going to trade him tonight. (He joked) Kevin should be happy that teams want him. But he’s not going anywhere.”(Source: NBC Sports)

That game might have been the game where they saw how much Love was necessary to repeat their title hopes. Love ended the game with 39 points, 12 rebounds, three assists, and three steals.

The New Sharpshooter Appears

Korver who they acquired from the Hawks for Mike Dunleavy and Mo Williams and a protected first round pick was big in that game. He made timely shot after shot in the fourth quarter and overtime that helped the team take that well needed game.

Korver also played well in the last game against the Pacers totaling 29 points. He went 10 of 12 from the field and eight of nine from the three point line. His eight threes tied his career high.

That red hot shooting was what the Cavs needed after losing JR Smith and Iman Shumpert, who was also shooting well, to injury.

The Pacers were also on a seven game winning streak and the Cavs were also able to end their win streak. These games will help them solidify their home court advantage going later into the season.

This will also help them rest their players later in the season.

The Dying of the Rumors

The Carmelo talks will die down with the team playing well but the playmaker talks are well warranted.

Carmelo just isn’t a fit for what the Cavs do in terms of LeBron driving and dishing it out to shooters. Love is one of the main shooters he dishes it out to and giving him up will be a big loss in terms of what they do. Even if Love isn’t the key piece for the Knicks, it would hurt the Cavaliers to give up the majority of their bench production for Melo.

The playmaker that LeBron is asking for is what they really need because that will give the team the luxury to put Kyrie and LeBron on the bench and give them more rest to get ready for the playoffs.

Cavs should look for more assets that help the teams strengths rather than building a super team.
