LeBron James says he will go to college and has already chosen a school
LeBron James has accomplished virtually everything on a basketball court and now says he’s ready for another challenge — earning his college degree.
The Cleveland Cavaliers star told Ohio.com that he will pursue his diploma during his free time and already has picked a university.
“I’m signed up at the University of Akron for whenever I’m able to get a little bit of down time,” James said. “That’s always been a conversation that took place — to take some college courses, take some classes. So right now I just do a lot of reading, book reading, and obviously I’m around some really good people that I kind of take their knowledge and sort it into my mind.”
James made the jump from high school to the NBA in 2003 and has authored one of the greatest careers in NBA history. But he’s also made a difference off the court, establishing his “I PROMISE” initiative that gives full scholarships to kids from Akron who complete the program and satisfy other requirements.
As for James’ studies, he’s looking forward to learning more about world history.
“I love world history, just the history of how everything was put together. I love that part of things, and people that founded the world, made this world such a beautiful place. I’m pretty fond of that,” James said. “I love when I go around, obviously every summer traveling places, and it’s kind of unique to see how we kind of built things. Who kind of ruled places at certain points of time. It’s pretty cool.”
