A split-second before the buzzer sounded and the Cleveland Cavaliers sealed their unprecedented NBA Finals comeback from 3-1 games down, Kevin Love ran from the team’s bench and wrapped his arms around LeBron James.
The hug produced the widely-disseminated photo above showing James’ face of sheer joy mixed with exhilaration and maybe relief.
During an appearance on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" on Tuesday night, Love explains why and how he became the first guy to lock up with the emotional King James. Basically, he didn’t want to end up like N.C. State head coach Jim Valvano after the Wolfpack captured the 1983 National Championship.
Love also tells Colbert about the WWE’s importance to the Cavaliers — an appreciation that resulted in a custom title belt and Love’s rendition of Stone Cold Steve Austin’s beer smash.
