RPM, Brian Scott team up with Red Cross for Hurricane Matthew relief

After posting the best finish of his Sprint Cup career at Talladega last weekend, Brian Scott and Richard Petty Motorsports head to Martinsville Speedway with a few more eyes on the No. 44 Ford.

That extra attention comes at the perfect time as the No. 44 car will feature the American Red Cross on the hood along with a number to call or text to make donations for Hurricane Matthew relief.

The hurricane that caused damage from Florida through Virginia almost three weeks ago still has many people seeking assistance to recover from the Category 3 storm.

So far, the American Red Cross has provided over 1.3 million people with snacks and meals and provided overnight shelter for close to 100,000.

"With the significance that Hurricane Matthew had on the Carolinas, Virginia and really all of the Southeast Coast, we knew it was extremely important to give back to our community in a partnership with the American Red Cross," Richard Petty said. "One of the best things we can do for our community is to give back, and after seeing the impact Hurricane Matthew had on cities like Lumberton, Kinston and others cities in the coast plains of NC, we think partnering with Red Cross is an integral part in helping with the relief efforts of fans in those areas. We have cities completely under water where our neighbors have lost everything."

The Red Cross relies on donations to make an immediate impact on disaster relief for affected areas and fans can donate here, or by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS, or texting the word MATTHEW to 90999 to make a $10 donation.

Those numbers will be featured on the paint scheme when the green flag drops for the Goody’s Fast Relief 500 at Martinsville on Sunday.
