Harvick on Kurt Busch incident: 'He cleaned the side of our car out'

You'd expect it to be a happy moment when you advance to the Round of 8 in the Chase for the Sprint Cup, but after going 200 miles per hour for over three hours at Talladega Superspeedway, emotions can run high.

Stewart-Haas Racing teammates Kurt Busch and Kevin Harvick collided after they crossed the finish line in the Hellmann's 500 on Sunday and it didn't seem to be a congratulatory bump to salute both drivers advancing in the Chase.

"(Kurt Busch) cleaned the side of our car out after the checkered flag," Kevin Harvick said in his post-race interview. "I don’t really understand that, but all-in-all the Jimmy John’s Chevrolet team did a great job and didn’t have a scratch on it until then.  That is pretty good for Talladega.”

When Harvick was pressed if Busch gave him an explanation, he simply replied, "Not really."

Busch seemed to think Harvick should already know why he was sideswiped after the checkered flag.

“He has a misunderstanding of the call at the end of the race," Busch said post-race, after finishing fourth. "He will understand it and I’m sure he will clear it up in his interview."

Harvick didn't clear much up in his interview so it looks like team owner Tony Stewart will likely step in and sit the two drivers down to talk.

In order for the SHR drivers to advance to the Championship 4 and beat out the four Joe Gibbs Racing drivers, Jimmie Johnson, and Joey Logano, they're going to need to work together in the next three races, and Kurt knows that.

"For us, we are great teammates," Busch added in his post-race interview. "We are doing good together. We have to work together to beat all these other teams out there and (Harvick) knows that.”

Given the hot tempers of each of these drivers we might see something carry over to Martinsville Speedway, but for the sake of Stewart-Haas Racing, here's hoping cooler heads prevail.
