Danica Patrick’s West Coast Swing ended on a sour note, after contact with Kasey Kahne put the No. 10 Stewart-Haas Racing Chevrolet hard into the Auto Club Speedway wall on Lap 119.
Patrick was on the bottom of the frontstretch, with Kahne on the outside of her as the two raced down past the start-finish line. It appeared that Kahne’s No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet moved down and Patrick may have moved up slightly.
The result was that Kahne hooked Patrick, and sent her SHR Chevrolet headfirst into the outside wall. When it bounced off the wall, Patrick’s car briefly got airborne.
"I didn’t mean to do that," said Kahne. "I was just trying to side draft."
After the impact, Patrick showed her displeasure, as she lifted her arms at Kahne as he drove by under caution.
“I saw him chase me down the track and then the next thing I know I was getting spun up the track,” said Patrick. “I was passing him. He was behind me in the right rear. I don’t know what kind of day he was having. I just heard he was a lap down actually. I feel bad if he felt like he was put in a position to have to be that desperate a lap down. It’s just unfortunate; he must be having a very tough time.”
