Nicky Hayden remains hospitalized in serious condition two days after being hit by a car on his bicycle while training on the Rimini coast in Italy.

The prognosis remains guarded.

The 35-year-old was treated on the scene for life-threatening injuries following his crash, and then was taken to a local hospital in serious condition with chest and head trauma.

He was then transported to the Bufalini hospital in Cesena Tuesday night and was placed in a medically induced coma.

On Thursday, it was made public that Hayden had suffered severe brain damage. Hayden’s fiancé Jackie, brother Tommy and mother Rose are by his side.

The “Kentucky Kid” won the MotoGP World Championship in 2006 and was competing in the World Superbike championship this year. He was 13th in the points following the latest Superbike race at Imola.
