The car was sold at the Artcurial auction in Paris, but there is one catch for the proud new owner -- the classic racer is not street legal because it was only meant for racing.

Pierre Bardinon, famous French collector and racing driver, had the Ferrari in his collection since 1970. In 2012, Bardinon passed away and the family sold the vehicle to cover the cost of an inheritance tax bill.

British race car driver and 1958 Formula One World Champion Mike Hawthorn drove it during the Le Mans 24 Hours, setting a lap of under four minutes and making it the first car to average 124 mph on the Le Mans circuit.

Only four Ferrari 335 Spider Scagliettis were ever produced.
