A bald eagle reportedly escaped Dodger Stadium on Independence Day

Ahhhhhh, the 4th of July. Independence Day! It’s the most American of holidays, because it’s the holiday that specifically celebrates ‘MERICA.

Combine the 4th with baseball, and you have a metaphorical apple pie of American goodness. The ice cream on top of that pie? How about a bald freaking eagle flying high over Dodger Stadium before an early afternoon tilt between the Dodgers and Baltimore Orioles? That’s freedom, baby! … especially when said eagle decides it’s had enough of being captive and escapes. FOR FREEDOM!

And of course, there’s video:

At the time of this writing, there was no official word on whether the eagle was eventually corralled. For the safety of the animal, we hope so. Although maybe he just really wanted to go play wing for the Los Angeles Lakers. It is the NBA’s free agency period, after all.

Sorry. Couldn’t help myself.

UPDATE: The man wins again, friends.

Still, it is nice knowing the eagle will be safe and sound — if also a little less free.
