Jayson Werth was thrown out at home by a mile on a baserunning blunder

The Nationals took an aggressive gamble and came up way short in the sixth inning of Game 5 of the NLDS against the Dodgers. And it would come back to haunt them.

With two outs, Jayson Werth on first base and Washington up 1-0, Ryan Zimmerman doubled into the left-field corner. Although Dodgers outfielder Andrew Toles came up with the ball quickly, Werth was waved home. Big mistake.

Werth had barely rounded third base by the time Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager fielded the relay throw.

Making matters worse, Joc Pederson led off the seventh inning with a solo homer to tie the game at one and knock Max Scherzer out of the game. It was the start of a four-run rally in the inning that gave LA a 4-1 lead. And the Dodgers held on for a one-run win -- leaving Nationals fans to forever wonder what would have happened if Werth had been held at third.
