David Ortiz shares a heartfelt thank-you note to Red Sox fans

David Ortiz’s career came to an end a few weeks earlier than he would have preferred on Monday night when the Indians eliminated the Red Sox in the ALDS.

After the Indians were done celebrating on the field, Big Papi came out to say an emotional farewell to the fans at Fenway Park.

And on Wednesday, he shared this thank-you note on Twitter:

The “#04 #07 #13” salutation refers to the three World Series titles the Red Sox won during Ortiz’s tenure – the franchise’s first championships since the 1918 season. Soon, “#34” also will have special meaning because the organization plans to retire Ortiz’s number.
