Gary Player shares 57-year-old endorsement check for five pounds

Gary Player won the first of his nine career major championships in 1959 at Muirfield, and the Open Championship that year had a total purse of just £5,000. Player earned £1,000, and by the time he won his third Open Championship in 1974, the winner’s share had ballooned to £5,500.

Zach Johnson, who won the 2015 Open, took home £1,150,000

Player posted an amazing Throwback Thursday photo on Twitter showing a check he received from Slazenger in 1959, months before he won his first major.
