According to the preliminary police report, obtained by The Associated Press, Mayfield initially told an officer he was trying to break up an altercation. However, Mayfield eventually began "yelling profanities and causing a scene" before attempting to run away. He was tackled by an officer and handcuffed.

He threw for 3,965 yards and 40 TDs with just eight interceptions last season as the Sooners capped an 11-2 season with a win over Auburn in the Sugar Bowl.
