Mystery solved: Spurrier left Tebow off ballot

South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier has stepped forward as the lone SEC coach who didn’t vote for Florida QB Tim Tebow as the preseason All-SEC quarterback.

He told reporters on Friday that Gamecocks director of football ops Jamie Speronis filled out the ballot and it was just an oversight that Spurrier didn’t notice the mistake, according to a report in the Charleston Post and Courier.

The former Florida coach says he asked SEC media relations head Charles Bloom to change his vote and that Bloom accepted, making Tebow now a unanimous selection.

Speaking in the Internet media room before the second media day heats up, Spurrier explained the situation.

“We’ve got Tebow on there, don’t we?” he says he asked Speronis after hearing Tebow had been left off one ballot.

After a pause on the other end, Spurrier says, “I said, ‘Oh, no.'”

He also apologized to Tebow and Florida before heading to the media room to officially meet the gathered press.
