Alabama middle school coach submits his application for the LSU job

LSU’s coaching vacancy is attracting all the regular candidates you’d expect. It seems like every person in Louisiana is hoping either Tom Herman, Jimbo Fisher or Bobby Petrino ends up with the job.

Yet if those options fall through, a surprise candidate threw his name into the conversation for the gig on Thursday: Troy Elliott.

Who is Troy Elliott, you ask? Well, he isn’t your typical run-of-the-mill candidate, but his credentials are impeccable. That’s right, Elliott is the defensive coordinator of a 5-0 middle school football team in Gadsden, Alabama, and he thinks he’s got what it takes to get the job, darn it!

Elliott wrote LSU AD Joe Alleva a hilarious letter earlier in the week, explaining his credentials and why he’d be a perfect fit in Baton Rouge.

A couple thoughts here: One, did the “Hairless Bears” comment make anyone else laugh out loud? Also, the “Spam Spameron” line was pretty good, although I don’t think throwing your offensive coordinator under the bus is the best way to win over a new boss.

Either way, credit to Elliott for having some fun with what is a fun situation.

And who knows, if Herman, Fisher and Petrino all say no, maybe Alleva will have to consider the self-described “2nd most successful public middle school defensive coordinator in Etowah County.”
