The first round of the 2016 NCAA tournament didn’t go Pitt’s way. But even with the Panthers eliminated earlier in the day on Friday by Wisconsin, the Pitt band stayed around late into the evening to do a good deed.
The 15-seed Weber State Wildcats hail from Ogden, Utah — over 1,000 miles from Friday’s game site of St. Louis. Unfortunately, their band was unable to make the trip, leaving the Wildcats in danger of playing against a two-seed (Hey there, Xavier!) without any auditory support.
Enter the Pitt band, which donned Weber State attire, learned the Wildcats’ fight song and cheered on their newly-adopted team:
Not only is the Pitt band playing for @weberstate… They NAILED the fight song and are now cheering their brains out! Friggin' pros!..
That’s a pretty classy move from the Panthers, even if Weber State came up short against the Musketeers. Regardless of the outcome of the game, it’s a story that everyone involved will be able to tell for years.
