Morehead State head basketball coach Sean Woods has resigned, a source informed FOX Sports on Thursday.

The resignation comes three weeks after the university suspended Woods with pay, due to complaints received alleging Woods had assaulted players Malik Maitland and Soufiyane Diakite during a game on Nov. 19. The complaints led to an internal investigation.

On Tuesday, Woods was officially charged with misdemeanor battery, according to a police report obtained by WKYT in Kentucky. According to the documents, Maitland told police that Woods backhanded him in the chest during a game while Diakite said Woods shoved him twice.

Maitland's father, Edson, also told ESPN that Woods head-butted his son last season, then later apologized.

Woods, a former standout at the University of Kentucky, was 77-65 in five seasons as the head coach of the Eagles.

Morehead State assistant Preston Spradlin was named interim coach when Woods was suspended. The Eagles are 2-7 on the season.
