FOX SPORTS UNVEILS LANDMARK PRODUCTION PLANS AND BROADCAST SCHEDULE FOR FREEDOM 250 GRAND PRIX OF WASHINGTON, D.C.

Unprecedented Broadcast Camera Vantage Points Include Atop Iconic Washington Monument

Celebratory Prerace Show Highlighted by Salute to the Military

LOS ANGELES – FOX Sports announces its landmark production plans and broadcast schedule for the historic Freedom 250 Grand Prix of Washington, D.C., on Sunday, Aug. 23 (1:00 PM ET on FOX and FOX One), as the NTT INDYCAR SERIES makes history with the first-ever automobile race on the National Mall and through the streets of the nation’s capital. The unprecedented event, a centerpiece of the nation’s 250th birthday celebration, will showcase the most ambitious live motorsports production in FOX Sports history while offering viewers unparalleled coverage of a revolutionary event in American motorsports.

BROADCAST BUILT FOR THE ICONIC SETTING

No other motorsports event has ever featured this backdrop. The Freedom 250 Grand Prix circuit runs past the U.S. Capitol, down Pennsylvania Avenue and along the National Mall, and FOX Sports has built the coverage to match it with 90 cameras across the street course and inside the race cars framed to deliver both the on-track action and the sense of place. The FOX production features a camera mounted on the top observation level of the Washington Monument, a first in the history of a sporting event, and multiple other stunning vantage points. FOX Sports has also placed a camera on a 70-foot crane, carrying overhead crowd views, as well as vantage points of the U.S. Capitol, the Washington Monument and other landmarks. Coverage also originates from the air, framing the circuit against the Capitol, the National Mall and the monumental core -- views that sporting events in the nation’s capital almost never have the chance to deliver.

OWL CAM

FOX INDYCAR is introducing a custom, first-of-its-kind perspective, highlighting an overhead race view with the debut of Owl Cam (mounted to a 4D gimbal for four-axis stabilization) at the Freedom 250 Grand Prix of Washington, D.C. Mounted atop a constructed truss across Pennsylvania Ave near 6th Street, Owl Cam affords fans a viewpoint down Pennsylvania Avenue with the U.S. Capitol as a backdrop, as cars race past and under at their fastest speeds.

SPECIAL FOX PRERACE SHOW

Emmy Award-winning host Chris Myers hosts FOX prerace against the backdrop of the U.S. Capitol alongside four-time INDIANAPOLIS 500 champion Helio Castroneves and former INDYCAR SERIES driver Danica Patrick, the most successful woman in open-wheel racing history and the highest-finishing female in the INDIANAPOLIS 500. Acclaimed FOX Sports reporter and renowned storyteller Tom Rinaldi, winner of 17 national Sports Emmy Awards and seven national Edward R. Murrow Awards, offers special features and interviews live from Washington.

During its special 90-minute prerace coverage beginning at 11:30 AM ET on FOX and FOX One, FOX Sports will capture a massive salute to the U.S. military, complete with an epic multi-branch flyover.

FOX ONE TO LIVE STREAM IROC PRESENTED BY CHEVROLET EVENTS

FOX One will live stream the pair of IROC Presented By Chevrolet races on Saturday, Aug. 22, at 3:00 PM ET, with FS1 re-airing the action on Sunday, Aug. 23, at 10:00 AM ET. In addition to Sunday’s race, FOX One will provide additional streams on Saturday, Aug. 22: IROC practice 1 (10:40 AM ET) and IROC practice 2 (12:25 PM ET).

TAKING INDYCAR TO THE BIG APPLE

A few days before heading to Washington, D.C., Will Buxton, two-time NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion Josef Newgarden and six-time NTT INDYCAR SERIES race-winner Kyle Kirkwood celebrated the Freedom 250 Grand Prix in New York City. On Monday, the trio ceremoniously lit the Empire State Building in red, white and blue at 12:00 PM ET, and on Tuesday, they rang the Opening Bell at Nasdaq to mark the upcoming weekend’s historic event.
