FOX Sports Announces Broadcaster Match Assignments for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ Group Stage
John Strong and Stu Holden Return as Lead Broadcast Booth to Call Opening Match and all U.S. Men’s National Team Matches
All Five Broadcast Teams to Call Every Match On-Location
DOHA, QATAR – Ahead of the opening match of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ this Sunday, Nov. 20, FOX Sports, America’s English-language home for the tournament, today unveils broadcaster match assignments for the group stage.
David Neal, Executive Producer of FIFA World Cup™ on FOX and Vice President of Production for FOX Sports, made today’s announcement assigning the network’s unrivaled lineup of premier play-by-play announcers and decorated match analysts.
The opening match of the tournament between host country Qatar and Ecuador will feature FOX Sports’ lead play-by-play announcer John Strong and lead match analyst Stu Holden on the call with Jenny Taft and Tom Rinaldi reporting from the sidelines. Live coverage begins at 9:30 AM ET on FS1 with a 90-minute edition of FIFA WORLD CUP LIVE before the match kicks off at 11:00 AM ET.
The second day of the tournament, Monday, Nov. 21 begins with play-by-play announcer Ian Darke joining match analyst and former USMNT legend Landon Donovan in the booth for England vs. IR Iran (FS1; 8:00 AM ET). They’ll be joined by sideline reporter Geoff Shreeves. Play-by-play announcer Derek Rae pairs with match analyst and former U.S. Women’s National Team star Aly Wagner on the call for Senegal vs. Netherlands (FOX; 11:00 AM ET) with Rodolfo Landeros serving as sideline reporter. The Strong, Holden, Taft and Rinaldi quartet close out the second day with the USMNT’s awaited tournament opener vs. Wales. (FOX; 2:00 PM ET)
On Tuesday, Nov. 22, play-by-play announcer JP Dellacamera partners with match analyst and former USMNT icon Cobi Jones on the first match of the day between Argentina and Saudi Arabia. (FS1; 5:00 AM ET) The following match between Denmark and Tunisia (FS1; 8:00 AM ET) will see Jacqui Oatley become the first woman in U.S. television history to deliver play-by-play at a men’s FIFA World Cup™ match. She’ll be joined by match analyst Warren Barton on the call.
Every day and night during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ tournament, FOX Sports will present exclusive studio coverage from its state-of-the-art set located on the Corniche waterfront promenade in Doha. FOX Sports’ dynamic studio coverage throughout the tournament will be anchored by hosts Rob Stone and Kate Abdo, analysts Alexi Lalas, Clint Dempsey, Carli Lloyd, Kelly Smith, Maurice Edu, Eni Aluko and Chad Johnson, reporters Jenny Taft, Tom Rinaldi, Geoff Shreeves and Rodolfo Landeros and rules analysts Dr. Joe Machnik and Mark Clattenburg.
