Premier League Powerhouses Return to FOX Sports and FOX Deportes in the FA Cup
With the Premier League taking a break this weekend, the league’s powerhouses shift to FOX Sports for third-round action in the FA Cup, the world’s oldest soccer competition and England’s main domestic tournament, Friday, Jan. 8 to Sunday, Jan. 10 on FS1, FS2, FOX Soccer Plus and FOX Deportes. The knockout cup competition features title-chasing Arsenal, Cinderella-story Leicester City, a Manchester United team that many think could be the next home for Jose Mourinho, and other teams from the full tier of leagues in England, clashing in true David and Goliath fashion. After carrying almost 900 soccer matches in 2015, FOX Sports picks up where it left off, ringing in 2016 with its 19th year televising the FA Cup, beginning in 1997 on FOX Sports World.
Friday’s action kicks off with seven-time FA Cup winners Liverpool playing League Two’s Exeter City from the fourth division of English football at 3:00 PM ET on FS1 and FOX Deportes. The weekend slate continues on Saturday, Jan. 9 as defending champion Arsenal look to hold on to the trophy for a third consecutive year against Sunderland on FS1 and FOX Deportes at 10:00 AM ET, while League One’s Sheffield United visits a struggling Manchester United at 12:30 PM ET on FS2 and FOX Deportes. The highlight of the third round comes on Sunday at 11:00 AM ET on FS1 and FOX Deportes as Tottenham battle Leicester City, currently atop of the Premier League, after only one full season of promotion from the Championship. Chelsea also plays earlier that day on FS1 and FOX Deportes (9:00 AM ET), hosting Scunthorpe from League One.
FOX Sports’ FA Cup coverage begins Friday, Jan. 8 with the 30-minute FA CUP MATCH DAY pregame show on FS1 at 2:30 PM ET. Rob Stone hosts, plus halftime and postgame coverage alongside analysts Warren Barton, Stuart Holden and Brad Friedel. Barton, Holden and Friedel combine for over 50 appearances in the FA Cup with Premier League teams, five of which are alive in the third round: Liverpool, Aston Villa, Bolton Wanderers, Tottenham and Newcastle United. The same cast also features on Saturday, Jan. 9 at 7:30 AM ET on FS1 and again at 12:00 PM ET on FS2. Ian Joy hosts alongside Barton and Friedel on Sunday, Jan. 10, ahead of the tripleheader on FS1, beginning at 6:50 AM ET with Oxford United-Swansea City. On the Spanish-language side, John Laguna joins Mariano Trujillo Friday and Saturday to host the pregame shows and postgame editions of FOX DEPORTES EN VIVO. The broadcast team on call for the matches includes Claudio Suarez, Troy Santiago, Ariel Torrone, Alvaro Izquierdo, John Laguna and Mariano Trujillo.
All FA Cup matches and related studio programming on FS1, FS2 and FOX Deportes are streaming live via FOX Sports GO and FOXSportsGO.com, while all matches are also available via FOX Soccer 2Go.
