Article continues below ... Krei grabbed 10 rebounds and Alexander nine for the Hawkeyes, who held a 47-40 edge on the boards in the season opener for both teams. Jaime Printy had 16 points for Iowa. Ashley Augerson scored 14 points and Hannah Kador 12 for the Jaguars. Southern, which won the Southwestern Athletic Conference last season and lost to Connecticut in the opening round of the NCAA tournament, led 4-3 less than 2 minutes into the game. But the Hawkeyes went on a 25-5 run over the next 11 minutes, highlighted by eight points from Alexander and six from Krei. Iowa, picked second in the Big Ten preseason poll, had a 19-point lead at halftime and began the second half by scoring 13 consecutive points, seven by Krei. The Jaguars shot just 29.9 percent from the field. Iowa plays Arkansas State, a 69-59 winner over host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, on Saturday in the tournament championship. Southern faces Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the consolation game.
