LSU tops Alabama 78-65 in SEC tournament
DULUTH, Ga. (AP) Shanece McKinney scored 18 points with 10 rebounds and four blocked shots as Louisiana State snapped its longest losing streak in 19 years by beating Alabama 78-65 in the second round of the Southeastern Conference tournament on Thursday night.
LSU (19-11) ended a six-game losing streak, its longest since the 1994-95 season. The Lady Tigers will play No. 2 seed Tennessee in Friday’s quarterfinals.
Danielle Ballard had 18 points and Theresa Plaisance had 12 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks for LSU.
Shafontaye Myers led Alabama (14-16) with 27 points, including the Crimson Tide’s first 14 points of the game. Daisha Simmons had 18 points.
Alabama closed the regular season by beating LSU 78-60 on Sunday. The Crimson Tide trailed by 25 points in the tournament rematch.
