Badgers fall behind early and never recover in 5-1 loss to Penn State

The No. 15 Wisconsin men’s hockey team fell behind early and never recovered in a 5-1 loss to No. 14 Penn State on Friday night.

The Badgers allowed a power-play and short-handed goal in the loss while being outshot 32-26.

The Nittany Lions took an early 1-0 lead on the man-advantage 1:36 into the game before tacking on another by the 9:00 mark of the first period.

Penn State added to its lead just 11 seconds into the second period to take a 3-0 lead.

After a short-handed goal at the 3:45 mark, goaltender Kyle Hayton replaced starter Jack Berry in the net. Hayton ended the night with 17 saves.

Tallying the Badgers' lone goal was freshman forward Tarek Baker who scored at the 11:54 mark of the third period.

Penn State topped off the 5-1 win with an empty-netter from Nate Sucese, his third of the night.
