Bracketology roundup: Badgers a four seed once more

Published Mar. 8, 2019 4:32 p.m. ET

As the college basketball season heats up, FOX Sports Wisconsin will round up what experts are saying about the chances for Wisconsin to make the NCAA tournament in March. This is the eighth edition of the 2019 bracket roundup.

A week after a close loss to Indiana, Wisconsin is back to looking like a four seed following a win over Penn State on Saturday and a decisive victory over Iowa on senior night Thursday.

That overtime loss to Indiana was a tough one for the Badgers, who fell into the fives and sixes over on Bracket Matrix, which compiles dozens of brackets from a variety of sources and spits out an average seed.

This week, they're trending in the right direction.

Technically a five seed, Wisconsin has an average 4.54, just behind Bracket Matrix's last four seed, Kansas State's average seed of 4.51.

Plenty of the brackets tracked by Bracket Matrix have the Badgers as a four seed, though a few outlets have Wisconsin down in the sevens, with one eight in the mix.

Fortunately, most of the major players are in agreement.

FOX Sports, CBS, ESPN, Sports Illustrated, Yahoo Sports and USA Today all have Wisconsin listed as a four seed following wins over Penn State and Iowa.

Over at SB Nation and Stadium both list Wisconsin as a five seed.

The Badgers close out the regular season at Ohio State on Sunday, then head to Chicago for the Big Ten tournament.

Knocking off the desperate Buckeyes -- a 10 seed on Bracket Matrix with an average seed of 10.08 -- could be more challenging than expected.

Ohio State has gone 0-6 on the road since winning three straight back in February, but has won its last two in Columbus, over Northwestern and Iowa.
