No. 5 Badgers fall to Notre Dame 6-5 in a shootout

The No. 5-ranked Wisconsin Badgers could not score in the shootout in a 6-5 loss to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, although the result officially goes down as a 5-5 tie for the Badgers.

After an overtime period, the Badgers missed all three of their shots in the shootout while the Fighting Irish scored once to get the win.

Wisconsin (15-8-1) was down 5-4 with just under 30 seconds left in regulation but Ty Pelton-Byce tied the game with a snipe after the Badgers won the face-off.

Wisconsin was up 3-1 entering the second intermission and followed the good start by giving up four goals to Notre Dame in the third period. Linus Weissbach scored with 8:49 left in the period to help the Badgers match goals with the Fighting Irish.

Roman Achan found the back of the net Cole Caufield scored his NCAA-leading 19th goal of the season in the second period.

Notre Dame got off to a 1-0 lead in the first but Pelton-Byce scored the first of his two goals later on in the opening frame.

The Badgers stay home for a two-game series against the Ohio State Buckeyes starting Friday at 7 p.m. Both games will be televised on FOX Sports Wisconsin.
