Packers Snap Counts: Hundley surpasses Rodgers in snaps in 2017

In (probably) his final start of the season, Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Hundley surpassed the injured Aaron Rodgers in snaps under center in 2017.



Hundley quarterbacked all 76 plays in Green Bay’s overtime win over Cleveland, boosting his total to 419 on the season, which is 71 more than Rodgers’ 348. Hundley has directed the line of scrimmage in every snap since Rodgers went down with a broken collarbone in Week 6 at U.S. Bank Stadium.

It’s a milestone Hundley will only hold temporarily, however. If Rodgers does play the final three games — as many Packers fans hope — he’ll pass up Hundley in the snap charts.

Unsurprisingly, Rodgers has led the Packers in snaps at quarterback since he took over the starting role in 2008 — even with two seasons derailed with injuries.

The last time Rodgers missed extensive time was 2013, when he was sidelined in Week 8 with a collarbone injury. That season, Rodgers played 582 snaps, while his backup quarterbacks — yes, plural — combined for 540 plays.

Matt Flynn led the backups with 324 snaps in five games (four starts), Scott Tolzien was second with 158 and veteran quarterback Seneca Wallace played in 58 snaps in his lone start.

Those quarterbacks combined for two wins and a tie in seven starts, keeping the Packers in the playoff race (they'd win the NFC North with an 8-7-1 record). This year, Hundley did the same, leading the Packers to three wins in seven starts to keep Green Bay in the postseason mix with a handful of other teams.

Other notes from Sunday’s snap counts:

-- Trevor Davis had a huge punt return in the fourth quarter to fuel the Packers’ comeback, but he also saw one target in his three snaps on offense. Davis did not record the catch, however. It was just his third target of the season.

-- Wide receiver Geronimo Allison played 19 of the offensive snaps, his highest total since he was active in 47 plays in Week 3 against the Bengals.

-- Linebacker Blake Martinez, who is Green Bay’s leading tackler, hasn’t missed a snap since Week 7. (He was out for one play that week.)

-- A week after not seeing any defensive snaps, rookie linebacker Vince Biegel was in on 15 plays (26 percent).
