Badgers predictions: Game 7 at Illinois

No. 25 Wisconsin is on the road and going against an Illinois team that has a good quarterback.

Yet, the Badgers are favored by as many as 14 1/2 points. Finding someone to pick the Illini to win was nearly impossible (even from Illinois fans – look at the comments from the Champaign article).
Of course, Wisconsin is 0-2 in night games this season and have struggled defensively against good passers. Nevertheless, it’s all Badgers, all the time in the picks.
Here’s this week’s predictions and make sure to join me Saturday night for a live blog of the game where I more than welcome your participation:
Our own Jesse Temple via his Know the Foe series: Wisconsin 31, Illinois 14
Tim Ditman of the Champaign News-Gazette: Wisconsin 38, Illinois 17.
All four Big Ten Network analysts are picking Wisconsin to win. The scores: Stephen Bardo 31-17, Sean Merriman 38-14, Brent Yarina 42-17, and Tom Dienhart 49-14.
The Associated Press’ Ralph D. Russo: Wisconsin 38, Illinois 21 Wisconsin 34, Illinois 24. “It’s night and it’s on the road – Wisconsin hasn’t done well under those circumstances so far. A rested Illinois will crank up the offense a bit, and the passing game will work well, but the Badger ground game will be the Badger ground game, and WR Jared Abbrederis will return from a concussion to hit on one big home run to give UW control.”
All four Athlon Sports analysts are picking Wisconsin to win. The scores: 31-27, 31-10, 38-20, 42-21. simulation: Wisconsin given a 70.3% chance of winning with an average margin of victory of 26.6-19.2.’s Adam Rittenberg and Brian Bennett: Bennett — Wisconsin 31, Illinois 14. “The Illini will come out firing after the bye week and burn the Badgers for a couple of early scores. But then the Wisconsin defense shuts things down, and the running game grinds out 290 yards against the Illinois defense, led by Melvin Gordon’s 160.”; Rittenberg — Wisconsin 34, Illinois 20. “I agree that Illinois takes the early lead as Nathan Scheelhaase connects with Josh Ferguson and Ryan Lankford for touchdowns. But Wisconsin will crank up the run game as Gordon and James White both eclipse 100 yards. Tight end Jacob Pedersen hauls in a touchdown from Joel Stave as the Badgers march on.”
All six analysts are picking Wisconsin to win and all but one (Bruce Feldman) think the Badgers will cover a 10.5-point spread.
Speaking of’s Feldman: Wisconsin 38, Illinois 31. “Tim Beckman’s D has been overmatched in two of its past three games and now has to deal with an explosive Badgers attack. Illinois is surrendering almost 200 yards per game on the ground. Bad news with Melvin Gordon coming to town. Expect plenty of fireworks, but the more physical Wisconsin team to put the host Illini away late.”’s Pat Forde and Graham Watson pick Wisconsin to win.
