Video Details

Did you know that the French Bulldog is bred primarily as a pet and companion, but can also serve as a great watchdog? Here’s everything you need to know about the group that includes the Chow Chow, the Boston Terrier and the Standard Poodle, presented by Purina Pro Plan.

The third group to take the ring at the Westminster Dog Show presented by Purina Pro Plan is the non-sporting group. The AKC originally registered dogs in groups as sporting or non-sporting before the group split off and seven were created. Non-sporting dogs are known to differ in personality, appearance, size, coat, and temperament. Notable breeds include the chow-chow, the Boston terrier, the standard poodle, and the French bulldog.

The French bulldog is bred primarily as a pet and companion. But it also can serve as a great watchdog due to its intelligence. The winningest breed in the non-sporting group is the Standard Poodle with 30 group wins. The non-sporting group has provided 10 best-in-show winners, with the miniature poodle being the last non-sporting dog to win in 2002.
