Wong helps U.S. Team to victory at MLB Futures Game

ST. LOUIS – Cardinals’ prospect Kolton Wong made an appearance over the weekend in the Sirius XM All-Star 2013 Futures Game in New York and went 1-for-2 at the dish with a stolen base for the U.S. Team, which ultimately won its matchup against the World Team, 4-2. The second baseman was the only Cardinals representative in Sunday’s showcase game at Citi Field, as Oscar Taveras was named a member of the World squad but deemed himself unable to play due to an ankle injury.

Wong, 22, is currently in his first season with Triple-A Memphis and has worked his way up through the minors after being selected 22nd overall by the Cardinals in the 2011 draft. The Hawaii native currently owns batting average of .298 complete with seven home runs, 29 RBIs, 13 steals and 54 runs scored in 83 games this season for the Redbirds.

FOX Sports’ Jon Paul Morosi caught up with Wong in New York.
