Red Wings’ Howard out 2-4 weeks with knee sprain
The Detroit Red Wings will be without their starting goalie for up to a month.
General manager Ken Holland told the media on Friday that an MRI revealed Jimmy Howard has a Grade 1 MCL sprain of his left knee and will miss two to four weeks
Howard injured the knee Wednesday during practice trying to make a save.
Howard is 6-8-7 with a 2.65 goals-against average this season. Backup goalie Jonas Gustavsson is 8-1-2 with a 1.93 GAA.
The Wings also announced Friday that they’ve recalled Patrick Eaves and Luke Glendening from Grand Rapids, and assigned Cory Emmerton back to to the Griffins.
The Wings play the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday night at Joe Louis Arena.
