#LAASpring Observations: Angels vs. Dodgers

Published Mar. 23, 2018 2:13 a.m. ET

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Sights and sounds from the Angels' 4-3 loss to the Dodgers on Thursday night.

Home-run happy

How many one-kneed HRs have you seen?! Not many, I'm guessing.

So just wow!

Luis Valbuena proved to be an offensive highlight for the Angels in Glendale, smashing a solo home run in the 4th inning.

The best part? He drops to one knee (!) on the home-run swing.

Watch it below.

Ironically, all four of the Dodgers runs came on home runs courtesy of Yasiel Puig, Corey Seager, Kike Hernandez and Cody Bellinger.

Ohtani hits in Tempe

Has the hype outweighed the Spring Training performance of Shohei Ohtani? Yes, it has, but remember one big fact ... #ShoTime is only 23-years-old. It will take time, facing both MLB hitters and pitchers, to get adjusted.

Ohtani took cuts during some minor league work vs. the Giants on Thursday afternoon in Tempe and, overall, looked sharp at the plate.

At one point, Ohtani hit a sharp single then walked across to the other field and took another at-bat, which resulted in an infield hit.

Ohtani will reportedly expected to DH on Opening Day, but Angels GM Billy Eppler quickly shot that rumor down.

Can't wait for #FreewaySeries

Despite Camelback Ranch being the Spring Training home of the Dodgers, the Angels were well represented.

When Puig hit a home run to Jupiter in the second inning and Hernandez to Mars in the third, the Dodger Blue was thrilled. But the Angels side didn't back down, especially when Mike Trout & Albert Pujols came up to bat.

The crowd was announced as a sellout, with 13,205 fans in attendance.

The series, which is always entertaining, continues this weekend with a three-game exhibition series from Sunday-Tuesday.

All games can be seen on FOX Sports West & FOX Sports GO.

News and notes

The Angels optioned some dudes to Triple-A Salt Lake City ahead of their matchup with the Dodgers.

Tropeano is the biggest surprise as the right-handed pitcher is 2-0 with a 3.12 ERA, striking out 11 batters in 8 2/3 innings of work this spring.
