A long flight back to St. Louis after a heartbreaking end to a 1-5 road trip Sunday evening allowed manager Tony La Russa time to think about what might get his struggling offense going.

His decision: move Matt Holliday to second in the batting order.

Holliday went 3-for-22 on the recent road trip, dropping his overall batting average to .289. The $121 million man has just six home runs and 25 RBIs through more than a third of the season, putting him on pace to finish the year with 15 home runs and 66 RBIs
