Andre Drummond is progressing well in his recovery from a back injury, according to an update released Monday afternoon by the Detroit Pistons.
The rookie center, who has been out since early February, will now ramp up his rehab and conditioning program, and will start doing “basketball-related activities.” The team said there is no timeline for Drummond’s return to action.
With the Pistons staggering toward the NBA lottery, there is no reason to rush Drummond, who put up impressive numbers off the bench in his 50 games. The 19-year-old averaged 7.3 points and 7.5 rebounds in just under 20 minutes a game. He had 18 points and 18 rebounds in a game just eight days before his injury.
