Doc Rivers named Coach of the Year by L.A. Sports Council
Doc Rivers, who guided the Clippers to a franchise-record 57 regular-season wins during the 2013-14 season, has been selected as the Coach of the Year by the Los Angeles Sports Council.
Rivers, who also serves as president of basketball operations, will be honored at the 10th annual LA Sports Awards on Sunday, March 15 at The Beverly Hilton Hotel.
Rivers helped steer the Clippers through the Donald Sterling controversy last season — his first as the coach of the franchise — and got the team into the second-round of the NBA playoffs before falling to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Rivers joins Mike Trout and Clayton Kershaw (Sportsmen of the Year), figure skater Gracie Gold (Sportswoman of the Year) and LA Kings president/GM Dean Lombardi (Executive of the Year) as this year’s award winners.
