Cypress WR/DB Quinten Pounds commits to Washington

When Quinten Pounds saw the late Sean Taylor play he was enamored.

He enjoyed watching the former Washington and University of Miami safety so much he decided to wear the No. 21.

Taylor was a ballhawk and a playmaker.

Pounds has some of that in him as well.

He had 11 interceptions last season as a junior. He’s added five more this season.

That’s just part of the reason colleges were attracted to the Cypress senior who plays defensive back, wide receiver, and also returns kicks.

Pounds entered the Cypress gym on Wednesday night in front of his fellow students, teammates, friends, and family to announce his college decision.

The choices: Boise State, Colorado, and Washington.

Pounds’ choice? Washington.

He took the purple visor with the large W from the table he was sitting behind and put it on as the crowd cheered in approval.

Seattle would be the place he decided to continue his career.

"I know I can be there for four years even if I wasn’t playing football," Pounds said.

On his visit Pounds and his parents were shown a video. They all cried, he said. It was at that moment they all knew the University of Washington was the place for him to be.

Pounds is the 16th commit in the 2015 Washington recruiting class. Other locals headed to UW include Crespi’s DJ Beavers, Westlake’s Andre Baccellia, and Sierra Canyon’s Isaiah Renfro.
