Anaheim general manager Bob Murray is being recognized for his efforts in building this Ducks team that’s currently matched up with the Chicago Blackhawks in the Western Conference Final.
Murray is up for the NHL’s GM of the Year Award, joining Glen Sather of the New York Rangers and Steve Yzerman of the Tampa Bay Lightning as finalists.
The Ducks have been outstanding this season, finishing tops overall in the Western Conference, earning the top seed on their side of the draw. But the Ducks team you see now is much different-looking than the team that took the ice in the first game of the regular season.
Murray was very active before the trade deadline, acquiring forwards Tomas Fleishmann and Jiri Sekac and defenseman James Wisniewski and Simon Despres, who scored the go-ahead goal for the Ducks in Game 3 against the Blackhawks.
When it’s all said and done, Murray likely won’t be the only Duck up for hardware.
