Wayne Gretzky's 5 NHL records that will never be broken
Happy Birthday, Wayne Gretzky! The Great One, No. 99, turned 55 on Tuesday. In honor of the Kings' legend, greatest of all-time and man with a statue outside Staples Center, here are five of Gretzky's records that -- even if they played NHL hockey for another 100 years -- will never be broken.

Most goals in a season - 92
In the 1981-82 season, Gretzky broke Phil Eposito's single season goal record of 76 with nearly a month and half to go in the season. Gretzky would tack on another 15 goals that season to bring the all-time mark to 92 goals in a season. The closest a player in recent times has come to reaching Gretzky's single season record: Alex Ovechkin's 65 goals in 2007-08
Most career assists - 1,963
Over the course of his 20 NHL seasons, Gretzky averaged 98 assists a season. So it's no suprise his 1,963 assists is tops all-time. What's more amazing, had Gretzky never scored a goal to combine with assists and add to his points total, his assists alone would make him the all-time NHL leader in points (Mark Messier is second with 1,887 points).
Most points in a season - 215
In the 1985-86 season, Gretzky had a down year in goals with 52, the lowest tally in his past five seasons. But he supplemented those 52 goals with -- yes, another record -- 163 assists, giving him 215 points for the season. No other NHL player has scored 200 points or more in a season -- Gretzky has done it four times in his career. In the past 10 seasons, the highest point total was 125.

Most career goals - 894
The original "unbreakable" record, Gordie Howe's 801 career goals seemed safe to stand the test of time -- especially since the former Red Wing played into his 50s. Gretzky scored goal No. 802 against the Canucks in 1994, fininshing with 894 in his career. Unless Jaromir Jagr thinks he can also play well into his 50s or even 60s, with 737 goals to his name now, it's safe to say Gretzky's record won't be broken.
Most career points - 2,857
This one's not even close. Gretzky's 2,857 points over his 20 seasons is almost 1,000 more than second all-time. No other player is within 100 points of 2,000 for their career and only three current players are in the top 50 all-time for points.
