Nick Wright reveals why Blake Bortles has more on the line this week than any other NFL player
In his preview of the Jacksonville Jaguars - Pittsburgh Steelers divisional matchup, Nick Wright reveals to Cris Carter, David Diehl and Jenna Wolfe why Blake Bortles has more on the line this week than any other NFL player in the league.
- --that's one of the reasons why I'd like to see Eli Manning playing in place of Blake Bortles in Jacksonville for Tom Coughlin next year. Now, that's a different discussion. I want to say something about Blake Bortles and this Jag's defense and how they're correlated. Because Bortles, by the way, has more on the line this week than any player in the league.
DAVID DIEHL: Yes.
- He's playing for $20 million, whether people recognize it or not. That's what his fifth year option is, just under $20 million. No matter how bad people think Blake is, if they win this football game and get the AFC championship game--
DAVID DIEHL: He's getting paid.
- The Jags are going to activate that fifth year option. So he's got a lot on the line individually, as well. Nine times this year, Blake Bortles has not thrown an interception. Not only are the Jags 9 and 0, the defense allows eight points per game in those nine games. Eight times this year, Blake has thrown an interception. They're 2 and 6, and they allow 25 points per game in those games. If the Jags have any shot at upsetting what I believe to be the best team in the NFL, Blake Bortles has to play a clean football game. It's their only hope.
