Video Details

Megan Olivi caught up with Jacare Souza after his impressive first round KO of Derek Brunson in Charlotte.

- Jacare, an incredible performance. But when you walked back here, you weren't necessarily smiling or acting like you just had this huge victory here in North Carolina. What's going through your mind?

- It was a long [INAUDIBLE] he's had. Remember, he had a surgery, six months without training. Then he has to go to the hospital 10 days. He has the thing, and they had to hold the drain to keep it draining for another 10 days, and that just came through his mind.

- Yeah, this has been a really long road for you. Mentally, what's it feel like to know that everything you've gone through has led to this moment-- you getting your hand raised again in the octagon?

- Only in the hard times that you know how good you are, and how much you want. So he was able to go through these months and be able to come back, train hard, and win. So that's what matters right now.

- How did you feel the fight was going before you landed that big head kick that eventually led to his downfall in that fight?

- I couldn't see everything he threw at me. I was able to defend. That I did a great job [INAUDIBLE] through the academy. So I was able to come here and win.

- You certainly did just that. So what happens next, Jacare? You proved that you're healthy and back in the octagon. Where do we go from here?

- There's another way to go to the belt. I just came in for a great victory, and that proves that that should be my next stop.

- Thanks. We're looking forward to seeing whether UFC puts you next. Congratulations, Jacare. Well-deserved.
