The middleweight division will be showcased in a big way at UFC 184 in Los Angeles when Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza takes on Yoel Romero in a pivotal bout that may determine the next contender at 185 pounds.

The new fight was confirmed via the Los Angeles Daily News and joins a card already featuring the middleweight title bout between Chris Weidman and Vitor Belfort in the main event.

Since joining the UFC in 2013, Souza (21-3, 1 NC) has been on a tear, winning four fights in a row while steadily climbing the middleweight ranks.

He knocked out former title contender Yushin Okami and most recently submitted former Strikeforce champion Gegard Mousasi in the third round of their matchup in September. Elbow surgery delayed his return to action following that fight, but it appears Souza is healthy and will be ready to go for the card taking place on February 28.

Romero (9-1) will attempt to knock Jacare off his path while potentially earning a title shot of his own in the fight. The former Olympic silver medalist in wrestling has gone 5-0 since dropping down to the middleweight division with wins over Derek Brunson and Brad Tavares as well as his most recent victory, a knockout finish against fellow top 10 fighter Tim Kennedy in September.

The win earned Romero a "Fight of the Night" bonus as well.

Now the two top-ranked middleweights will square off at an already stacked UFC 184 card featuring Weidman vs. Belfort, UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey against Cat Zingano in the co-main event as well as Frank Mir vs. Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva in a heavyweight attraction.
