Red-hot light heavyweights Ryan Bader, Ovince St. Preux meet in Maine headliner
Ryan Bader and Ovince St. Preux are both coming off impressive wins over the weekend in Vancouver. Now, they’ll both square off against each other.
Bader and St. Preux will meet in the main event of UFC Fight Night in Bangor, Maine on Aug. 16, according to the Bangor Daily News. UFC officials confirmed the bout. The event will air live on FOX Sports 1.
Bader (17-4) ran roughshod over Rafael Cavalcante on Saturday at UFC 174. The fight went to unanimous decision, but Bader’s pressure and wrestling was too much for "Feijao," who looked like he wanted out of the Octagon by the second round. It was one of the most impressive performances of the 31-year-old Bader’s career.
The Power MMA product has now won two straight in dominant fashion. Previously, he beat Anthony Perosh in December. Bader is ranked No. 8 among UFC light heavyweight contenders.
St. Preux (16-5) has won five in a row, including Saturday’s second-round verbal submission win over Ryan Jimmo. Jimmo broke his arm blocking a St. Preux kick. The atheltic former University of Tennessee football player is No. 10 in the contender rankings. The 31-year-old is a Strikeforce alum.
A middleweight bout between Tim Boetsch and Brad Tavares is also booked for the UFC’s first trip to Maine, which will take place at the Cross Insurance Center.
