Phil Davis: Jon Jones is incredibly talented and I will destroy him
Phil Davis has a lot to say about Jon Jones lately, but don’t take it as a sign of disrespect or dishonor because he truly believes the UFC’s reigning 205-pound champion is one of the best fighters on the planet.
It actually befuddles Davis when other fighters call out the champion and then proceed to talk about how much he sucks because it diminishes the returns if you go out and beat somebody that you’ve already said isn’t any good.
Instead, Davis compliments Jones because the best light heavyweight in the UFC deserves the praise, and it will make it that much more special when he goes out and snatches the belt away from him once they finally step foot in the Octagon together.
"My thing is I don’t like to say what people don’t deserve or say someone’s not good in order to build myself up. That doesn’t make me any better of a fighter if I say ‘oh Jones sucks’. Absolutely not," Davis told the Great MMA Debate podcast.
"Jones is young, he’s incredibly talented, he works hard and he’s a champion. I have nothing but great things to say about him. Having said that — I will destroy him."
Davis has a lot more to say about Jones as well as his opponent Anthony Johnson on the latest edition of the podcast.
Also on the show is former Strikeforce middleweight champion Luke Rockhold, who talks about his upcoming fight at UFC 172 against Tim Boetsch and a long standing grudge with Vitor Belfort.
Finally, Joseph Benavidez drops by to discuss his upcoming fight against Tim Elliott and his obsession with ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’.
Not to mention all new debate surrounding UFC 172, the TUF Nations finale and FOX UFC Saturday in Orlando.
Will Michael Bisping ever fight for a world title now that he’s lost to Tim Kennedy and who will win in the main event this weekend between Jon Jones and Glover Teixeira? All this and more on the new Great MMA Debate podcast.
