Paige VanZant vs. Michelle Waterson headlines UFC Sacramento

During UFC Tonight, Dana White announced that Paige VanZant vs. Michelle Waterson will be the main event of UFC Sacramento.

Heading into the end of the year, if you’re a fight fan (especially MMA), then you’re definitely in for a good time considering all the fights that are scheduled to go down. Other than the powerhouse card that is UFC 205 in New York, there are plenty of other fight cards on tap as well.

One fight card is UFC on FOX 22 in Sacramento, California, which is shaping up to be an exciting one. Not much has been said about who will be competing on the card, but we already have a main event. UFC President Dana White announced on UFC Tonight that strawweights Paige VanZant and Michelle Waterson will throw down.

VanZant is currently 4-1 in the UFC. After losing to Rose Namajunas last December, she bounced back with a highlight reel knockout over Bec Rawlings this past August. She’s looking to keep it going and work up a nice win streak.

Waterson hasn’t been the most active fighter as of late. She’s been saddled with injuries, and these setbacks have forced her out of multiple contests. But make no mistake. Waterson has been a world class fighter for quite some time now, and she’ll definitely be VanZant’s biggest test to date. She only has one fight in the UFC (against Angela Magana), which she won by submission in the third round.

Both fighters are some of the best talents in their division, and with the two set to face each other, a win for either one could mean a title shot in the future. The women’s strawweight division is absolutely stacked, and it’s going to be interesting to see who emerges as the next contender to face the champion, Joanna Jedrzejczyk.

UFC on FOX 22 will go down on Dec. 17.
