Matt Brown vs. Tarec Saffiedine in the works for UFC 207

Published Nov. 15, 2016 2:11 p.m. ET

Top 15-ranked welterweights Matt Brown and Tarec Saffiedine are expected to meet at UFC 207 on Dec. 30 at the year-end card taking place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Sources close to the matchup confirmed to FOX Sports that verbal agreements are in place for the fight with bout agreements expected to be issued in the coming days. MMAFighting.com first reported the bout on Tuesday.

UFC officials have not confirmed the bout yet.

Brown will return to action while looking to bounce back from the first TKO loss of his entire career when he fell to Jake Ellenberger at UFC 201 in July.

Brown has gone 1-4 over his past five fights after putting together an impressive seven fight win streak, including a victory over top ranked welterweight contender Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson.

Since joining the UFC from Strikeforce, Saffiedine has posted 2-2 record overall while injuries have kept him out of the Octagon for several long stretches during his career.

This is actually the second time Brown and Saffiedine have been matched up. The two welterweights were originally scheduled to meet at a UFC Fight Night event in Colorado in 2015, but Saffiedine fell off the card due to injury.
