Whew. That was scary.

The most anticipated UFC fight of the year was nearly in danger of being postponed when Jon Jones suffered a bad cut over his right eye in training. Jones, who defends his UFC light heavyweight title against Daniel Cormier at UFC 178 on Sept. 27 in Las Vegas, posted a video of the gash being tended to on Instagram.

Jones needed four stitches, but he will still be good to go for the massive title fight, UFC president Dana White told Lance Pugmire of the Los Angeles Times.

Good thing, because Jones and Cormier have been going back and forth on social media and FOX Sports 1. The two have no love for each other and it has come through rather clearly in their extremely entertaining banter.

Cormier told FOX Sports this week that beating Jones is even bigger than winning the belt, because Jones is the top pound-for-pound fighter in the world. Cormier is currently No. 15.

Initially, Jones was supposed to face Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 178. But Gustafsson tore his meniscus and had to withdraw from the big rematch. Jones and Gustafsson engaged in a very tight five-round battle last year with Jones coming out on top.

Jones and Cormier, along with Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier, will be in Las Vegas and Los Angeles for a media tour next week.
