Former UFC fighter Tim Hague dies following knockout in boxing match

Former UFC heavyweight Tim Hague has passed away after suffering a knockout in a boxing match this past Friday in Canada.

Hague's sister Jackie Neil made the announcement on Sunday.

"It is with incredible sadness, sorrow and heartbreak to report that Tim has passed away today," Neil wrote. "He was surrounded by family, listening to his favorite songs.

"We will miss him with so greatly. We ask for privacy during this difficult time."

Hague was 34 years old.

Hague was in critical condition after falling in a knockout loss to Adam Braidwood in a heavyweight boxing match at the Shaw Conference Center in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Hague was dropped numerous times during the fight, but the bout was not stopped until he was completely knocked out unconscious.

The bout was sanctioned by the Edmonton Sports Combative Commission.

Hague remained down on the canvas for several minutes after the knockout before he was taken to a local Edmonton hospital for treatment when he reportedly went into a coma while doctors attempted to save his life.

Sadly, Hague ultimately passed away from the injuries sustained during the boxing match.

Hague had suffered a knockout in his previous boxing match as well this past December and also fell by knockout in four of his past five mixed martial arts fights.

A veteran of more than 30 professional MMA fights, Hague competed in the UFC on four occasions before being released from the promotion.

Hague started his UFC career with a guillotine choke submission against highly touted striker Pat Barry, but he then suffered three straight losses before he exited the organization in 2010.
