Dana White: Hector Lombard vs. Matt Brown possible if he wins at UFC 182
Top five ranked welterweight Matt Brown lost his opponent for UFC Fight Night in Denver on Thursday, but if everything goes well for Hector Lombard on Saturday night at UFC 182, there may be a new main event in the works.
Tarec Saffiedine was originally set to face Brown in Denver, but a groin injury forced the former Strikeforce champion off the card leaving an open spot for some welterweight to step in and accept the fight on about six weeks notice.
Lombard, who is a massive favorite going into his fight against Josh Burkman this weekend, was completely on board with the idea of facing Brown in February.
"I’m in. Sign me for that one," Lombard told FOX Sports.
The quick turn around might usually seem a bit too fast for the UFC to actually pull the trigger on the fight, but according to UFC president Dana White the door may be open to it actually happening.
When White was told about Lombard’s willingness to step in and face Brown if he’s successful against Burkman, the UFC head honcho didn’t hesitate to agree to the idea.
"I like that idea. I’m in," White said.
While the verbal agreements are far from the fight actually being signed, it at least appears that a Brown vs. Lombard main event is possible at this stage of the game.
Of course Burkman can play the ultimate spoiler if he finds a way to beat Lombard at UFC 182.
