Conor McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh says ‘Notorious’ can win three UFC titles
UFC Fight Night headliner Conor McGregor is known for his unflinching self-confidence, but he may not even be the most brash member of his team. That honor may very well go to his head coach John Kavanagh.
Sure, the Straight Blast Gym head is positive that McGregor will beat Dennis Siver with ease on Sunday – "He’ll end up with his back on the fence pretty quickly. Conor will get him reacting, freezing, doubting himself. He’ll make a mistake, and he’ll go to sleep," Kavanagh said recently on Submission Radio – but the young coach is also looking past the German veteran and towards a fight with featherweight champion Jose Aldo.
"Scarface" may be the UFC’s longest reigning champion, but McGregor’s coach says that his charge is simply more skilled than the Brazilian. "Now [Aldo is] gonna fight someone who I believe will not only match him, but supersede him in the striking area," he said.
"And he’s going to feel what it’s like to be on the back foot and what it’s like to feel intimidated in that range. I believe he’ll turn Aldo into a grappler pretty quickly. I could see him being the one trying to take Conor down and I do think that’s gonna be his first experience with that. It’s gonna be a major difference than anything he’s faced before."
If you think McGregor’s coach looking past not just Siver but also Aldo is a bit much, he wasn’t even done making promises for his rising star. After McGregor dispatches of the best in the featherweight division, Kavanagh predicts that the "Notorious" one will also dominate the lightweight and welterweight divisions.
"He will go up to lightweight," he promised.
"And people say I’m nuts when I say this, but I could actually see him taking out the welterweight division as well. But right now the featherweight belt is the goal and then the lightweight belt, and then we’ll see how he’s going."
