Conor McGregor reveals his terms to fight Floyd Mayweather

Published Dec. 9, 2016 1:26 p.m. ET

Conor McGregor isn't afraid of a fight or a boxing match.

That's the message the new UFC lightweight champion sent to Floyd Mayweather late Tuesday night while taking the stage at 1 Oak in New York City as he continues his victory tour following his second round knockout over Eddie Alvarez this past weekend.

It all started after Mayweather erupted when hearing comparisons to McGregor while he was also walking around New York and that prompted the Irishman to respond.

Earlier this year, Mayweather admitted to starting a rumor that he was going to fight the UFC champion and McGregor says he's more than willing to accept — under certain financial conditions.

"He wants it under boxing rules. He wants a boxing match. He doesn't want a fight," McGregor shouted to the crowd.

"Tell Floyd and Showtime, I'm coming. Tell him to go to them Showtime offices. I want $100 million cash to fight you under boxing rules cause he's afraid of a real fight."

McGregor has long insisted that he's open to a boxing match with Mayweather despite having no professional bouts in that sport versus the former pound-for-pound king, who recently retired with a perfect 49-0 record.

The reason why McGregor is so willing to meet Mayweather on his turf is because he knows the boxer will never consider fighting him under mixed martial arts rules.

"Floyd's not ready for this. Much respect to Floyd, he's a solid businessman. What he has been able to do, he's a (expletive) animal at what he's been able to do but as far as real fighting, as far as true, pure unarmed combat — Floyd don't want none of this," McGregor said.

"He does not want none of this."

Rumors about the McGregor vs. Mayweather super fight have continued to simmer for almost all of 2016, but the Irishman's recent win to gobble up a second world title only managed to stoke the flames even more on this potential matchup.

Of course, there is still a long way to travel before a fight between the two superstars could ever actually happen.

For his part, McGregor is taking some time off after a very busy year where he fought four times inside 11 months and now wants to enjoy the birth of his first child in early 2017.
